Islamabad: The President’s announcement to reduce the sentences of prisoners on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr has been implemented across the country. According to official documents received in this regard, the sentences of 196 prisoners in Central Jail Lahore and 183 in Adiala Jail were reduced.
According to jail sources, 105 prisoners were released two days before the completion of their term after a reduction in sentence at Adiala Jail. The released prisoners expressed happiness over the government’s move and vowed to improve their future.
Government sources say the purpose of the reduction in sentences on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr is to give prisoners a second chance and a chance to share happy moments with their families. The sentence reduction was applied to prisoners who were not involved in serious crimes and had demonstrated good behavior.
