Islamabad: On the occasion of Pakistan Day, a prestigious ceremony was held at the Presidency in Islamabad, in which civil awards were awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions in various walks of life. President Asif Ali Zardari gave away the awards to people associated with the fields of politics, economy, science, medicine, education, journalism, social service, sports and security.
Hussain Dawood, chairman of Engro Corporation, and Amir Hafeez Ibrahim, CEO of Jazz, were awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz for their outstanding performance in the field of industry and corporate sector, while educationist and career counselor Syed Azhar Hasnain Abedi was awarded Sitara-e-Imtiaz for his services in the field of education.
Several officers and personnel of the police and security forces were awarded the Hilal Shujaat in recognition of their exceptional bravery, including DSP Sardar Hussain Shaheed, SHO Adnan Afridi Shaheed, Sub-Inspector Taimur Shahzad Shaheed, and others.
The highest awards were also given to those who contributed to public service and national development. Dr Syed Tauqeer Hussain Shah was awarded Civil Service, Captain (retd) Muhammad Khurram Agha, Omar Farooq and Syed Ali Haider Gilani were awarded Public Service, while renowned social figure Jimmy Engineer was awarded Hilal-e-Imtiaz for outstanding performance in social service.
Prominent performers in the field of literature and journalism include Javed Jabbar (literature), Zafar Waqar Taj (literature and poetry), and senior journalist Arshad Aziz Malik (journalism).
Sadia Rashid, Dr. Naveed Sherwani, Prof. Dr. Shahriar, Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali and other dignitaries were awarded for their outstanding contributions in education and science.
Civil awards ceremonies were also held in Peshawar, Lahore, and Quetta, where governors awarded individuals for distinguished service in various fields.
These awards are recognition of the efforts of the personalities who have served for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan and are being seen as a symbol of their hard work and dedication in the journey of national development.
