ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, while addressing a meeting of the National Security Committee, strongly criticized the previous government and said that the incompetent government formed in 2018 squandered the achievements made in the fight against terrorism. He said the implementation of the National Action Plan was stopped during the PTI regime, as a result of which the entire country is bearing the brunt today.
In his address, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan stands at a decisive juncture, and now is the time to ask the question as to who is with the country and its forces and who is soft on terrorists. He said that those who are not with the country, the nation, the martyrs, and the Gazis are in fact accomplices of the terrorists.
He further said that there are vicious attempts to create hatred between the forces and the people of Pakistan on social media, but the army and the people are one, and these conspiracies will never succeed. Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that Pakistan’s forces and law enforcement agencies were thwarting the evil designs of anti-national elements and there would be no compromise on the country’s security.
The Prime Minister termed the absence of the opposition in the meeting as regrettable and said that not attending this important meeting of national nature is actually like running away from national responsibilities.
During the meeting, Chief of Army Staff General Asim Munir briefed the parliamentary committee, which included the Director General ISI, Pakistan People’s Party, JUI-F, MQM Pakistan, Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, all four chief ministers and governors. However, none of the PTI members attended the meeting, while Mahmood Khan Achakzai and Akhtar Mengal also refrained from attending.
