ISLAMABAD: Members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) social media team appeared in front of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT), where they were asked tough questions on party financing and social media posts related to the Pakistan Army and state institutions. According to sources, detailed questions related to social media handling were asked of the people summoned by PTI, while the party leaders were shown all the details related to the posts made on social media.
Sources said that other members, including Barrister Gauhar Ali, were also asked questions about party financing. Two members of PTI’s finance department also appeared in front of the JIT. On behalf of Alia Hamza and Kanwal Shoeb, their lawyer, Dr. Ali Imran, appeared in the JIT. The JIT directed the two women leaders to appear before it at the next hearing.
According to sources, the JIT had summoned 15 party members of the PTI, but only three leaders appeared before the JIT today. The JIT had issued notices to Shaikh Waqas Akram, Salman Akram Raja, and Khalid Khurshid Khan, while Aun Abbas Bappi, Kanwal Shujab, and Alia Hamza were also summoned.
During the interrogation, the PTI leaders were asked tough questions regarding posts on social media, especially focusing on content related to the Pakistan Army and state institutions. According to sources, the JIT obtained detailed information on the modus operandi of PTI’s social media handling and party financing issues.
PTI leaders appeared before the JIT to present their points of view but stressed the need for more submissions in the investigation process. The JIT has directed all the summoned persons to appear before it on the next dates.
PTI has not yet issued an official statement on the matter, but sources say there is concern in the party’s inner circles about the investigation.
