Lahore: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of the PTI, has harshly criticised the “26th Constitutional Amendment.” He said that it “distorted the constitution” and made it easier for the government to get involved in the courts. Speaking with the media in Lahore, he said the change was enacted unconstitutionally, therefore avoiding party approval for the votes of assembly representatives. Insisting only pre-amendment justices should preside, Gohar asked the Supreme Court to speed proceedings on petitions against the amendment.
Emphasising the need to restore constitutional supremacy and judicial independence, he also promised PTI’s full support for the lawyers’ struggle against the amendment
