Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb Criticizes Opposition and Applauds Record Remittances

LAHORE: Senior Punjab Minister Maryam Aurangzeb praised the $3.1 billion in record-breaking remittances sent by Pakistanis living abroad in December 2024, stating that it was evidence of the foreigners’ faith in Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s economic initiatives.

Aurangzeb emphasized the government’s recent accomplishments in a statement, including the reinstatement of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to Europe. “I congratulate the country on the launch of PIA flights to Europe and the record remittances. These achievements represent advancement and growth for Pakistan,” she said.

Targeting political rivals, the senior minister said that detractors of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif were disseminating misleading information to thwart development initiatives. She said, “Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif is upholding the legacy of Quaid-e-Nawaz Sharif and the PML-N by steering Pakistan toward progress.”

Additionally, Aurangzeb used the occasion to refute similarities between the PML-N’s rule and that of its predecessors. “Make a comparison between the first year of Shahbaz Sharif’s tenure and the previous government of PTI. “The results will speak for themselves if you compare the first year of Buzdar’s tenure to Maryam Nawaz’s leadership,” she said.
