Karachi: The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics has said in its latest report that Pakistan has suffered a loss of over $6 billion in the form of trade deficit in the first two months of the current fiscal year.

According to the report, the country’s imports reached $11.115 billion in July and August, which is 14.23 percent more than last year. The volume of imports in August was $5.285 billion.

However, there was no significant improvement in exports.  Exports in the first two months of the current fiscal year stood at $5.102 billion, an increase of just 0.65 percent. In August, exports fell 12.49 percent year-on-year and 9.98 percent month-on-month to $2.417 billion.

The report said that the trade deficit is increasing pressure on the economy due to rising imports and weak exports.
