Islamabad: A recent document from the Petroleum Division has made it clear that the current prices of petrol and diesel include heavy taxes, which are directly burdening the consumers.
According to the document, taxes of Rs 94.89 per liter are levied on petrol while Rs 95.35 per liter of diesel. Accordingly, 36 percent of the price of petrol and 35 percent of the price of diesel are taxed.
According to the data, per liter of petrol includes Rs 14.37 customs duty, Rs 78.2 petroleum levy and Rs 2.50 climate support levy.
Similarly, Rs 15.84 customs duty, Rs 77.1 petroleum levy and Rs 2.50 climate support levy are being collected on per liter of diesel.
Economic analysts say that heavy taxes on petroleum products not only increase inflation but also increase production costs, which directly affects both the public and the business community.
