Islamabad: The ongoing bi-weekly review of oil prices in Pakistan has this time given the impression of providing relief to petrol consumers and putting some burden on diesel users. The Finance Division has announced that the price of petrol has been maintained at Rs 265.45 per liter, but the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) has been increased by Rs 6 per liter to Rs 284.44.

The decision has been taken after the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and consultation with the concerned ministries. According to government sources, the surge in diesel prices in the international market and the depreciation of the Pakistani rupee have made this price hike inevitable.

Economists say that this balancing strategy has been adopted with the aim of stabilizing the market so that the burden on petrol consumers does not increase, but diesel-dependent sectors (such as transport and agriculture) may face additional costs.

On the other hand, the business community and logistics companies have expressed concern that the rising price of diesel could increase logistics charges and ultimately lead to an increase in the prices of food items and other essential commodities.

These new prices will be effective from November 16, 2025 and will remain in place until the next review, when OGRA will review it again in light of international oil prices and the country’s fiscal situation.
