Islamabad: The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed reservations over Pakistan’s new wheat policy, especially that it may have fixed a minimum support price (MSP).
According to sources, after the policy was approved, a letter was written to the Food Ministry, and the details of the policy were sought.
However, according to the Food Ministry, this price has not been declared a “fixed support price” but an index price, which has been compiled in the context of the international wheat market price.
This step is being seen as the government’s effort to protect food security and the interests of farmers, while contacts with the IMF are ongoing in view of financial pressures and market instability.
