Islamabad: The federal government on Tuesday announced a fortnightly review of petroleum product prices, maintaining the price of petrol at Rs 264.61 per liter while increasing the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD) by Rs 2.78.

The decision, which is effective from midnight of September 16, 2025, is part of the government’s regular review of international oil prices and exchange rate movements. Officials said the slight increase in diesel reflects global import parity and increase in freight and insurance costs that have affected diesel margins more than petrol.

Transporters and industrial users – who rely heavily on diesel – warned that the hike could increase logistics costs and push up commodity prices in the coming weeks. Petrol users, including private motorcyclists and motorbike riders, were spared the cycle of hikes. Analysts said the no change in petrol prices provided short-term relief but stressed the need to keep an eye on global crude and rupee movements before the next review.
