Finance Minister: IMF talks encouraging, additional tax measures not under consideration

ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb has said that the ongoing talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) are moving in a positive direction and the discussions held so far are expected to yield satisfactory results.

In an informal conversation with the media, the Finance Minister said that the government is not considering any additional tax measures. He said that several tax-related cases are pending in the courts and the government is expected to receive substantial revenues after their decisions.

Muhammad Aurangzeb said that the government’s aim is to strengthen the country’s tax system and in this regard, the government is determined to bring the tax-to-GDP ratio to 11 percent.

He added that cooperation between Pakistan and the IMF is indispensable for the improvement of the country’s economy and the current progress is a sign that Pakistan is serious about its reform policies.
