ISLAMABAD: In a decisive move to shield vulnerable citizens from inflation during the holy month, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has officially approved the Prime Minister’s Ramadan Relief Package 2026.

Chaired by Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, the committee sanctioned a total outlay of Rs. 25 billion, with an immediate release of Rs. 19 billion to kickstart the disbursement process.

A Shift to Cashless Support

Unlike previous years that relied heavily on utility store subsidies, the 2026 package marks a significant transition toward a transparent digital payment system.

  • Direct Transfers: Funds will be sent directly to beneficiaries through formal banking channels and regulated mobile wallets.
  • Targeted Aid: The package utilizes data from the National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER) to ensure help reaches those truly in need without intermediaries.
  • Benefit Size: Each eligible family is set to receive a one-time cash assistance of Rs. 13,000.

Financial Breakdown & Operational Oversight

The ECC meeting, held on February 19, 2026, outlined a structured financial plan to maintain fiscal discipline:

  1. Immediate Funding: Rs. 19 billion has been authorized for instant release.
  2. Contingent Funds: The remaining Rs. 6 billion will be released based on evolving requirements and available fiscal space.
  3. Operational Budget: Rs. 1 billion was approved in-principle for administrative costs, including outreach and payments to partner financial institutions.

Ensuring Transparency and Dignity

Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb emphasized that the “dignified delivery” of support is a top priority. By moving to digital transfers, the government aims to eliminate long queues at utility stores and ensure that 100% of the subsidy reaches the intended recipient.

”This financing structure ensures that the package is fully resourced while maintaining strict fiscal transparency,” the Finance Division stated following the meeting.

The committee has directed the Finance Division to maintain robust oversight, ensuring that any unutilized funds are surrendered according to established procedures.

How to Check Eligibility?

Citizens are encouraged to verify their status through the official BISP portal or the dedicated Ramadan Relief Helpline (9999). Payments are expected to commence in the first week of Ramadan to assist with Suhur and Iftar expenses.
