Narrated Ziyad bin’Ilaqa:

I heard Jarir bin ‘Abdullah (Praising Allah). On the day when Al-Mughira bin Shu’ba died, he (Jarir) got up (on the pulpit) and thanked and praised Allah and said, “Be afraid of Allah alone Who has none along with Him to be worshipped.(You should) be calm and quiet till the (new) chief comes to you and he will come to you soon. Ask Allah’s forgiveness for your (late) chief because he himself loved to forgive others.” Jarir added, “Amma badu (now then), I went to the Prophet and said, ‘I give my pledge of allegiance to you for Islam.” The Prophet (ﷺ) conditioned (my pledge) for me to be sincere and true to every Muslim so I gave my pledge to him for this. By the Lord of this mosque! I am sincere and true to you (Muslims). Then Jarir asked for Allah’s forgiveness and came down (from the pulpit).

ہم سے ابونعمان نے بیان کیا ، کہا ہم سے ابوعوانہ نے بیان کیا ، انھوں نے زیاد سے ، انھوں نے علاقہ سے ، کہا میں نے جریر بن عبداللہ سے سنا جس دن مغیرہ بن شعبہ ( حاکم کوفہ ) کا انتقال ہوا تو وہ خطبہ کے لیے کھڑے ہوئے اور اللہ کی تعریف اور خوبی بیان کی اور کہا تم کو اکیلے اللہ کا ڈر رکھنا چاہیے اس کا کوئی شریک نہیں اور تحمل اور اطمینان سے رہنا چاہیے اس وقت تک کہ کوئی دوسرا حاکم تمہارے اوپر آئے اور وہ ابھی آنے والا ہے ۔ پھر فرمایا کہ اپنے مرنے والے حاکم کے لیے دعائے مغفرت کرو کیونکہ وہ ( مغیرہ ) بھی معافی کو پسند کرتا تھا پھر کہا کہ اس کے بعد تم کو معلوم ہونا چاہیے کہ میں ایک دفعہ آنحضرت صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس آیا اور میں نے عرض کیا کہ میں آپ سے اسلام پر بیعت کرتا ہوں آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھ سے ہر مسلمان کی خیرخواہی کے لیے شرط کی ، پس میں نے اس شرط پر آپ سے بیعت کر لی ( پس ) اس مسجد کے رب کی قسم کہ میں تمہارا خیرخواہ ہوں پھر استغفار کیا اور منبر سے اتر آئے ۔
