Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided not to further expand the Biker Lane Project in Lahore for the time being. According to sources, the pilot project launched on Ferozepur Road faced difficulties due to rains, weak enforcement and other traffic violations.
A ten-kilometer-long biker lane was prepared under the project, which was intended to provide safe travel to motorcyclists. However, after a few days, the paint applied due to rains peeled off and other vehicles started using the lane continuously. As a result, the project lost its impact.
According to LDA sources, the extension of the project on other major highways including Canal Road, Mall Road and Jail Road has now been stopped. Similarly, the implementation of the project in Gulberg, Allama Iqbal Town and Johar Town has also been delayed.
Government circles say that if the results improve through strict enforcement on Ferozepur Road, the project can be expanded again in the next financial year.
Biker lane was a positive step towards improving the traffic system in a big city like Lahore, but the administration’s inattention and weak law enforcement system doomed the project to failure.
