Heavy rains expected in Punjab and Islamabad, flood alert issued

Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has warned that heavy rains in various districts of Islamabad and Punjab may create dangerous conditions in rivers, streams and low-lying areas.

According to the report, the northeastern, central and southern districts of Punjab may be more affected by the rains. Heavy rains are likely to cause flash floods in Murree, Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala and Hafizabad.

Similarly, heavy rains can also increase the risk of floods in Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Sargodha, Chiniot, Bhakkar, Layyah and Mianwali.

The agency has further predicted that low-lying areas of Dera Ghazi Khan, Sahiwal, Multan, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan may also be affected by the sudden flow of rains and rivers. Due to heavy rains in the upper areas, there is a possibility of rapid rise in the water level in the rivers, while a warning has been given of large-scale flood relay at Marala headworks.

NDMA has directed the public to stay away from low-lying and vulnerable areas, avoid unnecessary travel and take special precautions near rivers.
