Lahore: Pakistan Railways has announced that the Lahore-Karachi Bullet Train project is going to give a new dimension to the country’s transport sector. This $6.8 billion project is included in the Main Line-1 upgrade under CPEC, which will not only reduce travel time but will also have far-reaching effects on the country’s economy.
According to experts, this train, which runs at a speed of 250 kilometers per hour, will be a low-cost alternative to air travel for students, professionals and business people. Its fare is kept 50-70 percent less than air travel.
Under this project, modern double tracks, signaling systems and bridges will be renovated. Analysts say the bullet train will not only create thousands of jobs but will also reduce dependence on imported fuel by increasing freight share. The Punjab government has also approved a separate bullet train from Lahore to Rawalpindi, which will make travel between the two cities possible in just two and a half hours.
This train, which will be operational by 2030, will play a significant role in making Pakistan a regional transport hub.
