Lahore: The Punjab government implemented a “garbage tax” in the province to permanently solve the problems of sanitation. This tax has been declared as part of the public welfare and Clean Punjab Program.

According to the details from the private channel, a monthly tax of Rs 300 will be collected from a five-marla house in urban areas and Rs 200 in villages. For ten-marla houses, Rs 500 has been fixed in urban areas and Rs 200 in rural areas, while Rs 1,000 will be imposed on one-kanal houses in urban areas and Rs 400 in villages.

For large houses, a tax of Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 has been fixed in urban areas and only Rs 400 in rural areas. A separate rate has also been fixed for shopkeepers, under which small shopkeepers in cities will pay Rs 500, medium-sized shopkeepers Rs 1,000 and large business centers Rs 3,000 per month. In villages, the rates will be Rs 300, Rs 700 and Rs 2,000 respectively.

The Lahore Waste Management Company has started implementing this decision.
