Internet revolution in Pakistan: Three new submarine cables and 200 million mobile users

ISLAMABAD: New developments have emerged in the internet and telecom sector in Pakistan. Federal Minister for IT and Telecom Shaza Fatima Khawaja has announced that three more submarine cables will be laid in the country to improve the speed and connectivity of the internet according to world standards.

Talking to the media, she said that the government is taking practical steps to promote modern technology and provide more opportunities for investors in the IT sector.

According to Shaza Fatima, 10 million new mobile subscribers have been added in just one year, taking the number of mobile users in Pakistan to 200 million. Data usage has increased by 25 percent in the last two years, while 8 million women have started using mobile internet for the first time.
