Lahore: Flood situation after recent heavy rains in various districts of the country has put both the citizens and the rural population to a severe test. The areas of Zafarwal, Shakargarh and Jhelum are the worst affected where the overflowing of the rivers and canals has not only submerged the fields and fields but also forced hundreds of families to evacuate their homes.
Dozens of villages have been submerged due to the overflow of the Nallah dike in Zafarwal and the collapse of the bridge at Hanjali has disrupted transportation. At present, 22,000 cusecs of water has become a major threat to the low-lying areas, putting the paddy crops on the verge of destruction.
In Shakargarh, the rising water of the Nallah Bayan has started hitting the roof of the Karil bridge, due to which Sikmal Kothe and the surrounding settlements have been cut off from the city. People are trapped in their homes while agricultural lands are being submerged, pushing farmers towards heavy losses.
In view of the threat of cloudburst and flash floods in Jhelum and its surrounding areas, the district administration has issued a flood alert. Residents living near Nala Banhan and Nala Ghan have been advised to evacuate immediately to prevent loss of life.
Rescue 1122 and other agencies have been put on high alert, but experts are warning that the situation could worsen in the next 24 to 48 hours.
Citizens have been appealed to follow the instructions of the district administration and not take unnecessary risks.
