Sugar prices drop slightly, still at Rs 190 per kg in Karachi and Peshawar

Islamabad: According to a new report by the Federal Bureau of Statistics, there has been a slight improvement in sugar prices across the country, however, the sword of inflation still persists in major cities.

At the end of the third week of July, the national average price of sugar reached Rs 178.67 per kg, which is 66 paise less than Rs 179.33 a week ago.

Karachi, Peshawar, and Bahawalpur are the cities where sugar is still being sold at the highest price of Rs 190 per kg.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, the price of sugar in most cities of Punjab, including Rawalpindi, has come down to the official rate of Rs 173, while in Islamabad this price has been fixed at Rs 172.

The federal government fixed the ex-mill price of sugar at Rs 165 per kg on July 15, after which there has been some stabilization in the market prices, however, prices are still out of control in some areas.
