Gilgit: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan is among the 10 countries in the world that are being severely affected by climate change. He visited the affected areas after the recent rains and floods in Gilgit-Baltistan and expressed regret over the loss of life and property.

During the meeting in Gilgit, the Prime Minister said that concrete measures to deal with climate hazards are the need of the hour. He said that federal institutions are in full contact with the Gilgit-Baltistan government, and relief measures are underway in the affected areas.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan’s share in global carbon emissions is very small, but we are facing the worst impacts. Referring to the devastating floods of 2022, he said that we are facing a climate crisis every year, which is affecting not only human lives but also infrastructure.

The Prime Minister announced that a Danish school will be established in Gilgit-Baltistan soon and the solar park project will also be completed there under his personal supervision. On this occasion, the Governor and Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan briefed the Prime Minister on the recent losses and development projects.
