Islamabad: Pakistan People’s Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that the decision of the International Court of Arbitration has made it clear that the Indus Waters Treaty cannot be made subject to India’s will and no party has the right to make a unilateral decision on it.
In a statement released on social media platform X, Bilawal Bhutto said that India has been continuously trying to violate the Indus Waters Treaty, but the recent court decision has provided a strong foundation for Pakistan’s position.
He said,
“The attack on the Indus is unacceptable; the International Court of Arbitration has proven by rejecting India’s unilateral policy that this treaty is not just a political matter but is binding under international law.”
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari further said that Pakistan will continue to struggle on the legal and diplomatic front to protect its water resources, and no aggressive action will be accepted.
According to analysts, this decision of the arbitration court is tantamount to dealing a serious blow to the Indian strategy of unilateral interpretation of water disputes in the region.
