Islamabad: As a result of the important decision of the Supreme Court’s constitutional bench, the number of seats of the ruling alliance in the National Assembly has increased significantly, which further strengthened its numerical superiority in the House.

According to the party position before the decision, the total number of members of the parties involved in the ruling alliance was 218, including 110 members of the Muslim League (N), 70 members of the Pakistan People’s Party, 22 members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), and 5 members of the Muslim League (Q).

In light of the recent decision of the Supreme Court, the Muslim League (N) has gotten 14 additional seats, after which the number of members of the Muslim League (N) in the House has increased to 124. Similarly, the Pakistan People’s Party has gotten 5 additional seats, and its number of members has reached 75.

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) has also benefited from the court decision, and its parliamentary strength has increased by 3 members, after which the number of JUI-F members has reached 11.

After this decision, the total number of opposition parties in the National Assembly has been stated to be 100. The largest representation in the opposition is the Sunni Ittehad Council, which has 80 members. In addition, eight independent members who succeeded with the support of PTI and the initial eight members of JUI-F are also part of the opposition.

PTI is not present as a party in the latest list, while the increasing numerical majority of the ruling alliance has further clarified the political direction of the House.

Political observers say that this court decision will have a profound impact on the legislative process and the proceedings of the House, while the opposition parties are indicating they will formulate a further legal and political action plan on this decision.
