Progress expected in talks with IMF on tax targets, subsidies

Islamabad: Renegotiations between Pakistan and IMF officials will take place in the next two days. According to government sources, no final result could be reached in the talks on May 30; however, discussions are ongoing on tax targets, the defense budget, subsidies, and sectoral revenue estimates for the next fiscal year. Consultations are also being held on energy sector reforms, electricity tariffs, and carbon levy rates.

According to sources, talks on providing relief to the salaried class may be fruitful next week. Discussions are also being held on possible relief to the industrial and agricultural sectors and import policy for the auto sector, where the government wants to ensure the protection of the local auto industry.
