ISLAMABAD— The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved two new 270 MW solar power projects in Sindh, with the aim of promoting affordable and renewable energy supply in the country.

Among the approved projects, a 150 MW solar plant will be set up in Deh Mithagarh and a 120 MW plant in Deh Halkani. Both these projects have been developed under the Sindh government, and their aim is to reduce power load shedding in Karachi and other areas and provide electricity to consumers at low cost.

Sindh Minister for Energy, Development, and Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has termed NEPRA’s approval as a major step towards providing affordable electricity. He said that these projects are important steps towards providing affordable and reliable electricity to the people as per the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. He directed the concerned authorities to remove all obstacles to the completion of these projects immediately.

The approval of these projects by NEPRA will promote investment in the renewable energy sector in the country and reduce dependence on imported fuel in power generation, which will save foreign exchange and improve the environment.

These projects have been prepared under Pakistan’s Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP) and Power Acquisition Plan (PAP), which are key planning instruments for the development of the energy sector in the country.

Experts say that the completion of these solar projects will not only reduce the cost of electricity generation but also provide electricity to consumers at a lower price, which is a positive step for the country’s economic development.
