Only Israel and Afghan Taliban Stand with India Today: Khawaja Asif

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has stated that today, only Israel and the Afghan Taliban stand alongside India on key issues — a move he called both disappointing and ironic.

In a recent statement, Khawaja Asif said Pakistan supported the Afghan Taliban for years and faced global criticism, including pressure from the United States and Western nations, because of this support. “We endured accusations and isolation to support them during the Afghan conflicts,” he added.

He remarked that Pakistan’s involvement in two Afghan wars damaged its global image, often being labeled as a country linked with terrorism.

Highlighting a report from respected Indian analyst Praveen Swami, Asif pointed out that the Afghan Taliban have recently shown clear signs of aligning with India, which he said reflects a troubling shift in regional politics.

Khawaja Asif’s comments underline growing concern in Pakistan over changing alliances and regional dynamics, especially at a time when security and diplomatic relations in South Asia remain sensitive.
