Sustainable development is not possible without adopting a national language: Ahsan Iqbal

Islamabad: Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has emphasized in a meeting of the Civil Services Reform Committee that the path of Pakistan’s development is linked to the promotion of the national language, not the dependence on the English language.

He said the 1973 Act is no longer compatible with the requirements of modern times, and the existing structure of the civil services is losing representation of ordinary citizens. “The system is designed for a particular class, while the real purpose is public service.

Ahsan Iqbal said that successful nations in the world take pride in their language, such as China and Turkey. “We have to make Urdu a medium of national identity and development instead of English.

He suggested that language, transparency, and involvement of the common man should be given priority in the new policy-making so that the civil services system becomes effective and people-friendly.
