Islamabad: The federal government has decided to intensify its efforts to enforce the ban on the use of polythene bags, the Ministry of Climate Change announced on Saturday.
A circular has been issued to federal ministries and departments, instructing them to expedite the implementation of the ban. The Ministry of Climate Change initially imposed the restriction on polythene bags in Islamabad in 2019.
Highlighting the health hazards associated with such materials, Minister for Climate Change Maryam Aurangzeb reiterated, “Food items should never be packed in harmful plastic bags.”
The ban specifically targets single-use polythene bags, which are prohibited under the Plastic Regulations 2003. The Ministry emphasized the importance of adhering to these regulations to mitigate environmental and health risks posed by plastic pollution.
The notification urged all federal ministries and departments to ensure strict compliance with the ban and contribute to a plastic-free environment. This renewed effort reflects the government’s commitment to promoting sustainable practices and protecting public health.
