Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has assigned important tasks to the relevant ministries and institutions to digitize the country’s economy, under which instructions have been issued to form a dynamic working group. At a key review meeting on digitization of the economy chaired by the Prime Minister, he made it clear that ending the informal and equitable economy is the main goal of the current reform agenda.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that Pakistan’s development path is linked to a modern, transparent and effective system and the digitalization of the economy is an important step in this direction. He directed the working group to come up with practical measures and frameworks to expeditiously complete the process so that the tax system, financial inclusion and policy management across the country can be aligned with the modern requirements.

The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Ahad Cheema, Ali Pervez Malik, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, State Minister Bilal Azhar Kayani, Governor State Bank of Jamil Ahmed and other senior officials concerned. In the meeting, the participants deliberated on the current economic structure, use of technology and implementation of digital strategy and discussed various options.

According to government sources, in this process of digitization, it has been decided to completely modernize financial institutions, tax collection systems, export and import records, and government payment systems, which will not only increase the size of the economy. But corruption and uneven system will also be stopped.
