ISLAMABAD: National Assembly member Sher Afzal Marwat has said that he does not expect any help from the Trump administration for the release of the PTI founder. Because, as they say, “the hands of the gentlemen are very long.” Talking to the media outside the Parliament House, he said that he attended a convention of overseas Pakistanis where he realized that these people are actually the backbone of Pakistan’s economy, which sends $31 billion annually to the country.
He lamented that the property of overseas Pakistanis here is occupied by locals and the state has failed to protect their rights. Sher Afzal Marwat stressed that the government should give priority to protecting the legal and financial interests of overseas Pakistanis.
To a question on the delegation from the US for the release of the PTI founder, he said he appreciated their efforts but was not sure if the delegation would be allowed to meet the PTI founder.
He expressed concern over the current financial condition of PTI and said that the party does not have money to pay lawyers’ fees, so where will the money come from for lobbying in the US? He also revealed that the biggest mistake of the founder of PTI was to get a two-thirds majority.
On the question of political alliance, he clarified that he was approached for the Forward Block, but he refused and said that he would not be part of any conspiracy that would divide the party.
