Maulana Fazlur Rehman hints at launching anti-government movement after Eid

ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has hinted that a decision will be taken to launch an anti-government movement after Eid-ul-Fitr. He emphasised that PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif can play an important role in the current political situation. Talking to reporters, Maulana Fazlur Rehman strongly criticised the government and said that if unilateral decisions continue in the country, the political situation may deteriorate further. According to him, the meeting of the advisory council will also consider a possible alliance with the PTI. Stressing the need to resolve the issue of Balochistan through dialogue, he said that if the state asks us, we can also consider playing our role in the case of Afghanistan. Expressing concern over the recent terrorist incidents in the country, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that blasts in mosques and targeted killings of clerics during Ramadan have become a serious problem. Condemning the killing of prominent Mufti Munir Shakir, he said that if mosques and madrassas are not safe, how will it be possible to protect ordinary citizens? He called upon the government to take immediate cognisance of the issue and take effective steps to provide security to the scholars. Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that the incidents of killings at the behest of clerics are regrettable and appear to be part of a deep-rooted conspiracy against the religious community.
