Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has dismissed a petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Junaid Akbar and others seeking a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan. The court, in its verdict, made it clear that the petitioners were not following the meeting rules set by the jail authorities, without which there was no scope for any special permission.
The court, led by Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro, ruled that the prison administration had set up a formal procedure for the meeting, which all parties must abide by. According to the report submitted to the court by the jail superintendent, on March 10, eight PTI leaders—Salman Akram Raja, Barrister Gohar, Salman Safdar, Niazullah Niazi, Naeem Panjotha, Shoaib Shaheen, Aboor Niazi, and Uzair Bhandari—have already met Imran Khan.
.
The court’s decision made it clear that the applicants would have to follow the SOPs set for the meeting, and no special concession could be granted in case of any violation. After this court decision, PTI leaders will be required to apply for a meeting again after fulfilling the legal requirements.
