Islamabad: The National Electric Power and Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to reduce electricity prices across the country. Under this decision, the price of electricity for the rest of the country except Karachi has been reduced by 2 rupees 12 paise per unit, while the price of electricity for Karachi has been reduced by 3 rupees per unit.
NEPRA has issued notifications for reduction in power tariff under monthly adjustment. The benefit of this reduction will be visible to consumers in March bills. According to the notification, the electricity price for Karachi Electric has been reduced in the monthly adjustment of December 2024, while the prices have been reduced in the adjustment of January 2025 for the rest of the country.
This step has been taken to provide some relief to the consumers in the burden of inflation. The government and NEPRA say that this reduction in electricity prices has been possible due to the reduction in fuel prices and the improvement of the electricity system.
According to experts, the reduction in electricity prices will not only benefit the common consumers, but will also have a positive impact on the industrial and commercial sectors. This is expected to boost the economy.
