PICA Amendments Challenged in Supreme Court, Request for Full Court Bench

Islamabad: Qayyum Khan filed a Supreme Court petition against the amendments to the Pakistan Electronic Crimes Act (PICA), which were applied in Islamabad. Through the petition submitted by Khan, the petitioner demands to have the recent amendments repealed as these modifications overturn fundamental rights.

The petitioner demands formation of a complete Supreme Court bench to review both the amendments made to the PICA Act and the existing original PICA Act.

According to the petition, the changes to the Act infringe upon constitutional rights, and the Parliament does not have the authority to pass laws that contravene these rights. The Supreme Court is expected to examine the matter in the context of fundamental rights and their protection.
