Sarsabz Farmers Secure Top Positions in Punjab Wheat Yield Competition 2025–26

Lahore: Fatima Fertiliser celebrated farmers’ outstanding achievements at the Sarsabz Ki Jeet Wheat Yield Competition Prize Distribution Ceremony.

Farmers using Sarsabz Nitrophos and Calcium Ammonium Nitrate (CAN) secured the top three positions at the provincial level and 119 out of 120 district-level positions in the Punjab Wheat Yield Competition 2025–26, announced by the Government of Punjab.

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain addressed the ceremony virtually. The event was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo, Secretary of Agriculture Punjab Shakeel Ahmad Mian, and President of Pakistan Kissan Ittehad Khalid Khokhar, among other dignitaries.

Sarsabz farmers secured first position in 39 out of 40 districts and claimed all three provincial positions.

Sajjad Hussain from Muzaffargarh secured the first provincial position with a yield of 69 maunds and 39.4 kilograms per acre, followed by Shafiq Ahmed from Attock with 69 maunds and 39.1 kilograms per acre. Muhammad Asghar from Rahim Yar Khan secured third position with 69 maunds and 24.1 kilograms per acre.

As part of the prize distribution, three tractors were awarded to the provincial winners. At the district level, Honda CD 70 motorcycles and LED TVs were presented to all district-level position holders.

Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, addressing the ceremony virtually, said:

“I congratulate Fatima Fertiliser and all the farmers using Sarsabz fertilisers on securing all three provincial titles and 119 out of 120 district-level positions in the Punjab Wheat Yield Competition. This remarkable achievement is a source of pride for Pakistan.

“Increasing wheat production and improving crop yields are essential for strengthening Pakistan’s food security. The government is committed to ensuring the procurement of every grain of wheat in coordination with provincial governments.

“We are also introducing initiatives to improve farmers’ access to quality seeds, modern technology and agricultural financing. I appreciate Fatima Fertiliser’s efforts in promoting balanced fertiliser use and providing farmers with modern agricultural knowledge and advisory services.

“The government, private sector, research institutions and farmers must work together to transform agricultural productivity and achieve national food security.”

Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Iftikhar Ali Sahoo said farmers are the backbone of Pakistan’s economy and food security. He added that the government is committed to supporting them through farmer-friendly policies and timely agricultural initiatives.

He appreciated Fatima Fertiliser for recognising Punjab’s leading wheat growers and encouraging excellence in agriculture.

He said the announced wheat support price of Rs 4,500 per maund, alongside Rs 150 billion in interest-free loans extended to one million farmers through the Kissan Card since October 15, would help farmers access quality seeds and fertilisers on time and strengthen wheat production.

Speaking at the event, Fatima Fertiliser Director Marketing and Sales Rabel Sadozai said:

“Last year (2024–25), Sarsabz users also claimed all three provincial positions and 97 of 120 district positions. This year’s results reflect an improvement on last year and highlight the potential to improve wheat production through balanced crop nutrition and agronomic guidance.

“Through Sarsabz, we encourage informed farming practices that help farmers make every acre count, strengthen their livelihoods and contribute to Pakistan’s food security.”

The results also highlight the potential to achieve nearly two acres’ worth of national wheat yield from a single acre. While successful Sarsabz farmers recorded yields of approximately 69–70 maunds per acre, the indicative national average stood at around 33 maunds per acre, representing nearly double the average yield.

Fatima Fertiliser supports farmers through agricultural advisory services and soil testing facilities, helping them make informed decisions about their land’s nutritional requirements.

Through its Sarsabz range, including Nitrophos and CAN, Fatima Fertiliser continues to promote balanced crop nutrition and improved farming practices to help farmers increase productivity and contribute to the country’s food security.
