Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that students are the real asset of Pakistan, and providing access to modern education and technology to the youth is the government’s main responsibility. He announced that 500,000 Chromebooks will be distributed to students across the country in the next two years.
Addressing a ceremony to distribute Chromebooks to students of schools and madrassas in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said that the government is taking steps to empower the youth. According to him, educational opportunities should be available to every child, regardless of his economic class.
Shehbaz Sharif said that intelligence and hard work should not be judged on the basis of poverty or wealth. He said that by providing modern educational facilities to students, their capabilities can be developed in a better way.
Referring to the laptop distribution programme during the previous government, the Prime Minister said that the PML-N government had distributed 600,000 laptops on merit across the country, including Azad Kashmir. Now, a plan has been made to increase digital education opportunities for students through the distribution of Chromebooks.
He also talked about the Danish Schools project and said that 27 Danish schools are under construction across the country. The plan is to provide quality education to students in these institutions along with the best educational facilities free of cost.
According to Shahbaz Sharif, the aim of Danish schools is to provide opportunities for progress for children who are unable to get quality education due to financial difficulties. The provision of educational facilities in these institutions is being organised in such a way that deserving students can also benefit from a better educational environment.
The provision of digital devices like Chromebooks and laptops can help students access online educational content, research and modern learning resources. However, the results of this programme will also depend on the timely distribution of devices, availability of internet, training of teachers and their effective educational use.
According to the latest information, under the Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme, eligible students will be given bags and MiFi devices providing internet facilities along with Chromebooks. According to the government, the distribution process will be based on merit and academic ability, which also includes students of religious schools.
