Iran has presented a seven-day plan to end the dispute with the US and restore maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, this proposal can pave the way for negotiations to end the war and reach a final agreement.
Araqchi said in one of his articles that Iran wants a fair and honourable agreement with the US, but for this, Washington must show serious commitment to a permanent end to military operations.
According to the Iranian Foreign Minister, this plan was conveyed to US officials through mediators on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session. The proposal includes an outline for opening the Strait of Hormuz on the sixth day and starting negotiations for a final agreement on the seventh day.
Araqchi says that Iran is ready for a diplomatic solution but will not give up its right to defend itself. He cited past military actions during talks, saying that these incidents have damaged trust between Tehran and Washington.
However, fundamental differences remain between the two countries. The United States wants talks on other issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme, while Tehran values a ceasefire and progress on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. No final agreement on the proposed plan has been confirmed.
The Strait of Hormuz is a vital shipping route for global energy supplies. Tensions there could affect oil supplies, global markets and international trade. Therefore, the success of the proposed plan will depend on agreement between the two countries, a ceasefire and practical steps to restore maritime traffic.
