Tehran: Iranian Parliament Speaker and Chief Negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has said that the US must pay the price for its actions against Iran and must accept the legitimate demands of the Iranian people.
According to Iranian media reports, Qalibaf said that military power and negotiations are both important for effective defensive deterrence. According to him, Iran’s strategy is neither permanent war nor negotiations in all circumstances but to use both means to protect its national interests.
Stressing the importance of defence balance, Qalibaf said that Iran wants an environment in which no adversary dares to attack it. He said that war, negotiations and defence capability need to be viewed together.
The Iranian speaker warned the US that those considering the possibility of attacking Iran should learn from past experiences. He also expressed reservations about the US promises, saying that a mere signed agreement cannot guarantee that there will be no attacks in the future.
According to Qalibaf, the progress towards reconciliation was linked to Iran’s strategic position on the battlefield. His statement shows that Tehran wants to advance the negotiations with its defensive capabilities and pressure strategy.
