Islamabad: Pakistan’s information technology (IT) exports recorded a significant increase during September 2026. Exports reached $435 million, the second highest monthly level in the country’s history.
According to official data, IT exports in September increased by 18 percent compared to the same month last year. They also increased by 10 percent compared to August 2026. This performance has highlighted the growing importance of the technology sector in Pakistan’s services exports.
The total volume of IT exports during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, i.e., July to September 2026, was $1.25 billion. This is about 18% more than the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Earlier, Pakistan’s IT exports reached a record high of $4.6 billion in the fiscal year 2025-26. In the fiscal year 2024-25, this volume was $3.8 billion, while the annual growth rate during the previous fiscal year was 20.6%.
Software development, digital services, freelancing and technical facilities provided to overseas businesses play a significant role in Pakistan’s IT industry. The foreign exchange earned from these services is important for the country’s economy.
However, better access to global markets, a trainable workforce, improved digital infrastructure and business facilitation will be necessary to maintain continuous growth in exports. The long-term growth of the IT sector will also depend on the extent to which Pakistani companies succeed in providing high-value services and acquiring new international customers.
According to the latest reports, September exports were only $2 million short of the monthly high of $437 million recorded in December 2025.
