The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has proposed to increase electricity tariffs for consumers by more than 54 per cent for the calendar year 2027. According to the company, the current tariff of Rs 28.20 per kilowatt-hour has been requested to be increased to Rs 43.54.
The proposal was presented at a public hearing of NEPRA, where issues related to tariffs of electricity distribution companies were reviewed.
IESCO is among the companies included in the first phase of the government privatisation programme, and the focus is on improving its financial condition. However, the proposed increase may have a significant impact on the electricity bills of consumers.
Before finalising the tariff increase, NEPRA will review the relevant application and available evidence. Therefore, the proposed rate should not be considered as an approved new tariff.
