Karachi: The buying trend continued on Thursday at the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and the benchmark KSE 100 index closed at 166,186 points with an increase of more than 768 points. This development marked the second consecutive trading day in the market with a positive trend.

According to the Pakistan Stock Exchange, the index rose by 768.66 points, or 0.46 percent, to 166,186.16 points compared to 165,417.51 points in the previous session. The index initially came under pressure during trading but later recovered due to increased buying. The high of the day was 166,877.01 points, while the low was recorded at 165,613.11 points

Despite the market rally, the index could not maintain its high. In the last part of the trading session, some investors sold shares to take profits, which limited the index’s growth. Despite this, the market closed on a positive note.

According to the latest data, about 517.6 million shares were traded in the ready market, while in the previous session this volume was about 585.9 million shares. However, the total value of shares increased to Rs 23.57 billion compared to about Rs 20.07 billion the previous day.

The overall market value also increased at the end of the trading session. Market capitalisation increased from about Rs 18,391 billion to Rs 18,475 billion, indicating a total increase of about Rs 83 billion.

Stock performance also improved. Out of 501 companies trading on the ready market, 292 increased in share price and 169 decreased in share price, while 40 companies closed unchanged. These figures show that the bullishness was not limited to a few companies, although the performance of different sectors and companies was not uniform.

Despite the recent market recovery, economic conditions, interest rates, energy prices and political developments will continue to be important for investors in assessing future trends. Two consecutive days of gains are certainly a positive sign, but they do not guarantee a sustained rally. Investors need to consider companies’ financial results and the broader economic situation in addition to daily changes.
