Pakistan has expressed its resolve to operationalize defense cooperation while reiterating its support for safeguarding the security, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia. According to Foreign Office Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.
During the weekly media briefing, the spokesperson stated that Pakistan supports Saudi Arabia and its people’s right to defense. He emphasized the imperative of preserving the sanctity of the Two Holy Mosques and affirmed that Pakistan stands with Saudi Arabia under the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement.
According to Sajjad Haider Khan, a meeting of the strategic, political, and defense committee regarding the Makkah Defense Agreement was held, attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. It was decided during the meeting to take practical steps toward defense cooperation.
The spokesperson further stated that Pakistan also participated in the Moscow Format meeting concerning Afghanistan.
Defense cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia holds significance in the context of regional security. The agreement on practical measures by the defense committee represents an effort to make this cooperation more effective; however, the nature of these measures and the details of their implementation remain to be revealed.
Pakistan has made it clear that it will continue to support Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, and safety.
