Lahore: Pakistan received an annual increase in remittances from citizens living abroad in September, but recorded a slight decrease in the inflow of these funds compared to August. The latest data from the State Bank of Pakistan highlights the importance of remittances for the country’s economy and their monthly fluctuations.
According to the State Bank, workers’ remittances in September 2026 were 1.9 percent lower than August, while they increased by 12.7 percent compared to September 2025.
Pakistan received a total of $10.9 billion in remittances during the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, i.e. July to September 2026. This amount is 14% more than the $9.5 billion received in the same period of the previous fiscal year.
According to country-wise data, Pakistanis living in Saudi Arabia sent $899 million to Pakistan in September. The UAE received $748.5 million, the UK $515 million and the US $305 million.
The annual increase in remittances reflects the continuous supply of funds to the country by Pakistanis abroad. These funds play an important role in meeting domestic expenses, improving foreign exchange availability and reducing external payment pressures.
However, the decline on a monthly basis shows that fluctuations in remittance inflows may persist. The key challenge for the economy is to keep this inflow stable and make it easier for Pakistanis abroad to send money through legal channels.
