KARACHI: A negative trend prevailed during the trading week on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. Amid continuous volatility, the benchmark KSE-100 Index fell by a total of 2,609 points. At the end of the week, the index closed at 168,155 points, putting pressure on the overall performance of the market.
Significant activity was seen in the buying and selling of shares during the trading week; however, the index still fell below its initial level. The 100 Index continued to trade in a wide band of 3,807 points throughout the week. During this time, the market touched a high of 171,492 points, while the low was recorded at 167,685 points.
The volume of trading activities in the stock market was also notable. A total of 2.6 billion shares were traded during the week, worth Rs 93 billion. These figures show that despite the decline in the index, trading continued in the market.
On the other hand, a significant decline was also recorded in the total value of the stock market. Market capitalization decreased by Rs 271 billion during the week to Rs 18,725 billion. This decline shows that the decline in share prices also affected the overall market value.
The weekly decline in the stock market is an important development for investors; however, the performance of all sectors of the market cannot be assessed by the decline in the index alone. Different trends may emerge in the shares of different companies. In the upcoming trading sessions, investors will focus on market fluctuations and the pace of buying and selling.
