Diplomatic contacts have not completely ended in the ongoing tension between Iran and the United States. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has said that Tehran is aware of US President Donald Trump’s response, but Washington’s final position has not yet reached Iran through the mediators.
According to Araqchi, Iran has made its conditions clear to the mediators for opening the Strait of Hormuz and moving forward with negotiations. Tehran will now wait for the US’s final response, and the next step will be decided on the basis of that.
This situation arose when Iran presented a plan to the US to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and resume broader negotiations. According to Iranian officials, the implementation of this plan is subject to the fulfilment of certain conditions. These include a reduction in US military pressure and the lifting of maritime sanctions on Iranian ports.
US President Donald Trump has announced his rejection of the plan. However, Iran’s position is that it will decide its future strategy only after receiving a formal response from the mediators. This shows that despite public statements from both sides, a window of indirect diplomatic contact still exists.
The Strait of Hormuz has become the most important aspect of the dispute. This waterway is crucial for global energy transport, and the blockage here has already increased pressure on oil supplies and regional trade. Therefore, the restoration of this route is not only a matter of Iran-US relations but also important for the global energy market.
Araqchi says that the current stalemate can be resolved through negotiations. On the other hand, Trump’s rejection of the Iranian plan has complicated the prospects for immediate progress. In such a situation, Washington’s formal response through mediators could play an important role in clarifying the direction of the next diplomatic phase.
For now, Tehran has kept the door open for negotiations while maintaining its conditions. The next development will depend on what final position the US presents through mediators and how Iran responds to it.
