LAHORE: BYD has showcased its latest electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles at the Pakistan Auto Show (PAPS) 2026 in Lahore, with the company announcing plans to begin local assembly of its SEALION 6 in Pakistan in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The SEALION 6 is planned to become BYD’s first locally assembled vehicle in Pakistan. The company is participating in the auto show in partnership with Mega Motor Company (MMC), highlighting its expanding new-energy vehicle portfolio in the local market.

BYD’s lineup at PAPS 2026 includes the ATTO 2, SHARK 6 Anniversary Edition in Outback Orange, SEALION 6 and DENZA B8. The display covers fully electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, along with models from BYD’s luxury technology brand DENZA.

The SEALION 6 is powered by BYD’s Super DM-i plug-in hybrid technology, which combines electric driving with a petrol-electric powertrain. According to BYD, the vehicle offers a total driving range of up to 1,100 kilometres. The company says its Super DM technology has surpassed 8.5 million vehicles in global sales.

The plug-in hybrid system is designed to prioritise electric driving while retaining the flexibility of a conventional engine for longer journeys. The technology is aimed at providing improved fuel efficiency while addressing range concerns associated with longer-distance travel.

The planned local assembly of the SEALION 6 marks a shift in BYD’s Pakistan strategy from importing vehicles towards establishing a local production footprint. Production is targeted to start in the fourth quarter of 2026, although final local specifications, pricing and production details may be announced separately.

Lei Jian, Country Head of BYD Pakistan, said Pakistan had shown strong potential for new-energy mobility and that the company’s experience since entering the market had strengthened its confidence in the country.

He said the planned local assembly of the SEALION 6 represented an important step towards establishing a long-term presence in Pakistan and supporting the development of new-energy mobility.

Danish Khaliq, Vice President Sales and Strategy at BYD Pakistan and Mega Motor Company, said the company’s PAPS lineup reflected growing consumer interest in electric and plug-in hybrid technologies.

BYD’s vehicles are being displayed at Hall No. 2 of the Expo Centre Lahore during PAPS 2026, which runs from September 18 to September 20.

The company has also announced a PAPS 2026 offer under which customers booking vehicles at its pavilion during the exhibition will be eligible for first-year free service, subject to applicable terms and conditions.
