Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for broader efforts to increase Pakistan’s exports and expand the country’s presence in international markets.
He gave the direction during a review meeting on exports and economic development. The prime minister stressed the need to bring more industries into the export sector and reduce the country’s reliance on traditional products.
Focus on New Export Sectors
Shehbaz Sharif directed officials to develop new export-orientated industries according to global market demand. He also called for measures to increase production capacity in different sectors.
The prime minister also stressed the importance of product quality. He directed relevant institutions to improve testing systems and help local producers meet international standards.
He also called for stronger compliance with international trade regulations. Better quality and regulatory compliance can help Pakistani businesses compete in overseas markets.
Value Addition and Technology
The meeting also examined ways to increase value addition in export products. The government wants exporters to move towards higher-value goods and improve their position in international markets.
Shehbaz Sharif urged export industries to adopt modern technology and invest in research and innovation. He also called for greater use of digital systems to improve trade procedures.
Ease of Doing Business
The government also plans to reduce difficulties faced by exporters. The prime minister directed officials to simplify export procedures and make them faster and more transparent.
Officials reviewed progress on the government’s export promotion roadmap during the meeting. They discussed new markets, sectoral diversification, product quality and measures to facilitate businesses.
Efforts to Open New Markets
Pakistan is also working on trade arrangements with different countries to improve market access. These efforts include free trade and preferential trade agreements.
The government is seeking to expand exports of horticultural products as well. It also wants Pakistani medical and surgical equipment manufacturers to access international procurement opportunities.
Officials are encouraging local companies to participate in international hospital tenders. The move could create additional opportunities for Pakistani medical equipment exporters.
Trade Exhibitions and Innovation
The government is using trade exhibitions to connect Pakistani businesses with international buyers. Exhibitions covering textiles, health, engineering, minerals, food and agriculture provide opportunities for local companies to explore overseas markets.
The meeting also reviewed efforts to update intellectual property laws. The changes aim to support innovation and strengthen export-orientated industries.
Officials also reported the completion of the restructuring process of the Export Development Fund.
Pakistan is seeking to widen its export base by developing new products and entering additional international markets. The government sees greater export diversification as an important part of its broader economic strategy.
