Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that the main objective of the government’s economic policy is to increase exports and build the economy on a more stable basis. He said that no new taxes have been imposed in the last one year.
The Prime Minister made this statement after meeting a delegation of leading industrialists and business representatives of the country. The meeting discussed issues related to business activities, problems faced by the industrial sector and economic reforms.
Shehbaz Sharif said that the government has recovered Rs 800 billion during the last one year through enforcement. According to him, removing obstacles to improving exports is one of the government’s priorities.
The Prime Minister said that the process of consultation with industrialists was continued even before the budget. The government has worked on fundamental reforms despite difficult economic conditions and steps are being taken for economic stability.
Stressing the importance of the export sector, he said that Pakistan must adopt an export-led path for economic development. For this purpose, attention is being paid to the problems faced by the industry and business sector.
The business figures participating in the meeting also called for continuous communication and consultation with the government. They said that the business environment can be improved by including the opinion of the private sector in policymaking.
The business delegation thanked the Prime Minister for continuing the consultation process. This communication between the government and the business community is important at a time when the focus is on increasing economic activities and expanding exports.
