Karachi: Business activities remained under pressure on the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Tuesday, and major market indices closed in the negative zone due to selling in major stocks. The benchmark KSE-100 index ended the day with a decline of almost 1,000 points.
The KSE-100 index opened trading at 173,504.31 points. In the initial phase, the index reached 173,736.20 points due to buying, but later the selling trend prevailed in the market. During this time, the index also went as low as 171,490.63 points.
At the end of the trading, the KSE-100 index closed at 172,642.16 points after a decline of 993.92 points, or 0.57 percent. The total trading volume of selected stocks of the index in the market remained at 225.24 million shares.
Despite the overall weakness of the market, positive activity was seen in the shares of some companies. PSEL supported the index by 97.35 points. MCB contributed 76.45 points. ATRL, FFC and CNERGY also played a role in limiting the decline in the index.
On the contrary, the decline in UBL shares put the most pressure on the KSE-100. The company’s negative impact on the index was 181.43 points. LUCK, MEBL, NBP and PPL were also among the significant negative stocks.
The other major index, KMI-30, also declined. The KMI-30 index closed at 246,107.08 points, down 1,413.60 points, or 0.57 percent. The trading volume of the index was recorded at 95.44 million shares.
According to the data, the performance of KMI-30 in the current financial year is 4.36 cent negative, while the performance of the calendar year is 0.98 percent negative. Overall, investors appeared cautious during the trading day and pressure on shares of major companies kept the market negative.
